If we look at the two words:
Arrogance: [ˈarəɡ(ə)nt] adj, having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities.
Ignorance: [ˈɪɡn(ə)r(ə)nt] adj lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.
.....On the face of it, we all have these traits in varying degrees. It would be impossible for any human being to survive without having a certain amount of self-preservation and we would be going out of our heads if we had to know about everything.
But what about those who have these traits in abundance to the detriment of the subject and those around them? In general; not at all very nice people. But what are the signs and how can we best cope with these people?
In the old days the expression "suffer no fools" was a dead giveaway and was merely euphemistic code for a cantankerous old, ignorant twerp.
We may like to single-out groups, for example, red-necks or religious people as being ignorant and arrogant. In the latter case of course, the reasoning is purely factual although in the former example, there may be blurred lines and we then get back to the varying degrees situation.
Nevertheless, what are other signs that enable us to determine these anti-social facets of some people in society and how can we effectively deal with them?
